Rare Winchester model 1886 saddle ring carbine in .50 EX caliber, serial number 101614. The carbine remains in good to very good condition showing 30% to 50% original blue on the barrel and magazine tube which is drifting to a brownish patina. Thebarrel address and markings are good and sharp. There is a Winchester style 3 leaf folding sight in the correct rear sight dovetail showing platinum lines. The frame has gone to a grayish silver patina with some traces of case colorsmixed in perhaps as much as 10%. The wood shows some weathering and opening of the grain and darkening due to oiling. Also the butt stock shows a couple of large chips and losses near the butt plate. The stocks are generally good overall andthe carbine is mounted with factory type sling swivels also period added double-sided swivels on the barrel and an extra saddle ring on right rear of frame. The markings are good, action, and the bore is still bright and at least very good. We’ve only seen a handful of .50 caliber 86 carbines and this is a very interesting example that should be further researched through factory records. Est.:$ 8000-$16,000
