Our Assessment: Winchester’s line of pump-action rimfire rifles was extremely popular. There are likely millions of children who learned to shoot on these rifles and Winchester had a model available from 1890 until well after WWII. The Model 62 was produced from 1932 to 1959 with over 400,000 guns sold. This example was manufactured in 1940 and has a factory smooth bore, typically for use with .22 Shot cartridges. These would be used for garden guardian duty or even for backyard skeet games like Mo-Skeet-o, Claybirder or Targo. The rifle is in spectacular condition, especially as many of these rifles saw hard use. The rifle’s high condition and rare configuration makes it very desirable to collectors, but it should also still be a great shooter.
