Condition: Very good. The untouched, original metal surfaces have a dark patina with minor to moderate pitting, mostly on the barrel band and buttplate. The forend cap has a dark aged patina. The raised feathered grain stock is also very good with a couple of minor cracks radiating from the front of lower tang and one on the left flat. Overall there are minor to moderate dents and scratches. The barrel tang and breech end barrel markings are barely visible due to the pitting and the remaining markings are clear. The action is fine. This highly desirable Model 1855 Springfield is seldom found in any condition, let alone this truly original attic find!
