The serial number range puts this model in the 2nd Type produced in 1894 and 1895. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S./1894 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" and the serial number. Standard raised blade front sight and adjustable ladder rear sight graduated to 19 on the ladder and marked "300", "400", "500" and "600" on the left side of the base. Mounted with a full one piece straight grip stock with matching handguard, with a flat iron buttplate and an original brown leather sling. The front barrel band is the 2nd Type with the upper center portion cut-out, has a bayonet lug and stacking swivel. There is a visible "JSA/1895" cartouche on the left wrist and circled "P" in the grip area. Complete with an original one piece iron cleaning rod. The upper left side of the stock has a deep crude carved "H.g.s." over a light "2d Mass".

Condition: Fine. The rifle retains 30% original blue finish concentrated in the protected area long the edge of the forend. The balance of the metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray and brown patina. The stock is also fine with the correct, excellent cleaning rod channel, some finish loss from re-oiling and a few minor dents and dings. The sling is good with some moderate wear and age cracking/flexing. The leather remains supple. The markings are clear. The action is fine. A solid representative example of a very rare, original U.S. Springfield Krag Model 1892 rifle.
