Produced at North's armory in Berlin, Connecticut, this is one of approximately 606 Model 1811 pistols produced without the double strap iron barrel band which would later become standard. Brass blade sights, with "P/ US" on top of the barrel and "P" on the back strap, and the lock is marked "eagle/ U.STATES" beneath the flash pan and "S.NORTH/ BERLIN/ CON" vertically behind the hammer. Smooth stock, with a swelled head hickory ramrod, brass reverse plate, and brass buttcap. These pistols saw hard use in the War of 1812 and had a high attrition rate; surviving examples are scarce.
BBL: 8 5/8 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 69 bore
Finish: bright
Grips:
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Fine, with a smooth mottled gray patina on the steel, and a dark aged patina on the brass components. Stock is very fine with a dent behind the hammer, lighter dents overall, and a few small scratches. Mechanically excellent. Considering the hard use, low number produced and high attrition rate, this very rare pistol is very much above average for a Model 1811 pistol. These U.S. North Model 1811's (sometimes called the M1810) are usually absent from even the finest U.S. Martial Pistol collections as they are 200 years old (as of this writing) and this example is a very sound, attractive piece of AMERICANA!
