Rare Samuel Adams patent breech-loading percussion rifle, manufactured by C. B. Allen, Springfield Mass. Approx. 12ga smooth bore, 30-1/4” barrel, 46” overall. Latch releases the barrel which pivots up to accept a paper-type cartridge. The gun remains in very good plus original condition showing approx. 50-70% original brown, some erosion and pinprick pitting just starting, with most of its Damascus pattern shown within thebrown finish. The breech, tang, and lock plate show most of their original finish dulling slightly. The gun is stocked in select walnut and shows some scratches, mars, and one gouge, generally good overall. Thebuttplate, cap box in the belly of the stock, and triggerguard are nicely engraved. Triggerguard and buttplate are silver plated as is the sideplate. There is a small removable peep sight mounted in the tang. The original front and rear sights are retained. The bottom of the barrel shows British proofs indicating an imported barrel. The maker’s names are nicely engraved on the arms upon which the barrel pivots. The stock is
