Offered for your bidding pleasure, we have a Pre-Prohibition Original Rare "The Red Cross Malt Tonic", The Neef Bros. Brewing Co., Denver, Colorado, amber coloured beer bottle, circa 1896-1917., original paper labels. In 1891 the German immigrants, brothers Frederick and Max Neef, purchased the Western Brewery in Denver and renamed it the Neef Brothers Brewery. The brewery was successful but struggled against the competition from beer giants Tivoli and Coors. This bottle has the updated Star of David logo from 1896. The malt tonic was advertised as a "preventative for loss of appetite, dyspepsia, sleeplessness, nursing mothers, convalescence." The neck label says, "Malt Tonic" with a Star of David centered over stalks of grain, the initials of the brewery are in the middle of the star. The main label says, "The Red Cross" in red lettering with a bold red cross centered between "Malt Tonic" over depictions of grain stalks and hop cones, below that says, "Brewed and bottled only by" and below that it says, "THE NEEF BROS. BREWING CO. DENVER, COLRADO. The bottom of the bottle is marked , "R & CO 34." The bottle is in good condition with no chips or cracks. Both labels are intact, red lettering is shadowed with a muted gold ink, black lettering is shadowed with a grey ink. Bottle measures 9.5"H x 2.5"W, weight 14oz.
