Spectacular medium brown Albany glaze pig flask by Anna Pottery, Pre-1875. One of their earlier examples of the railroad and river guide with all railways leading to St. Louis which is located at the top of the pig in a prominent location. Incised from the head to the tail is the Mississippi River with the words " Miss River". A sunburst looking design marks the location of St. Louis. Inscribed is "St. Louis the Future Capitol". On this occasion the statement must be prior to the decision to not relocate the capitol as the "in a hogs -" is missing. Inscribed below St. Louis in the right side of the pig is "Rail Road & River Guide/ With a Little Good Old Rye In - " On the left side of the pig several prominent towns are located staring off with Anna, Carbondale, Duquin Tamarou, Ashley, Centrailia, Odin, Effingham, Matoon, Tolona, Chester, Grand Tourer with Mound City and Cairo is unflattering ares of the pigs anatomy. Under the chin incised is "Chicago the Corn Crib of the World". The underbelly is incised with "Cincinnati the ancient Porkopolis" and "Ohio River". No Eads Bridge is present on the Mississippi River which pre-dates 1875 as the bridge was built in 1874. H 3", L 8", W 2 1/2"

Condition: The pig is in very fine condition with the exception of the two lower earlobes that have been chipped.
