Rare Pre-War Winchester Model 12 Slide Action Shotgun with Factory Stainless Steel Barrel
Manufactured in 1927, this version of a 12 gauge Winchester Model shotgun has a rear stainless steel barrel. The barrel has a single bead sight and is marked "-STAINLESS STEEL- [three line Winchester trademark] - MODEL 12-12 GA. FULL" on the left side and the two line address/patent dates marking on the right side. Standard receiver with serrated top. Single factory proofs on the barrel and receiver. 18 groove forearm and pistol grip stock with Winchester hard rubber buttplate. Length of pull is 13 3/4". The stainless steel barrels were Japanned and this finish quickly wore through leaving a spotted finish and were not very popular. Since stainless steel barrels were not popular and were available for a comparatively short time, all Winchesters with these barrels are very rare and valuable collectors items.
BBL: 30 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 12
Finish: blue/stainless steel
Grips:
Serial Number: 501387
Condition: Fine. The barrel has an attractive stainless steel gray appearance. The remaining metal surfaces retain 40% original blue finish with the balance a mottled gray patina blended with a smooth brown patina on the receiver. There is some scattered minor spotting and barely noticeable fine pin point pitting. The wood is also fine with a minor gouge on the buttstock (left side) and a couple minor nicks in the grip area, along with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. This would fit nicely in your Winchester Model 12 collection!
