Rare Panel Scene Engraved Roper Revolving Shotgun
Nickel bead and groove sights, with a threaded muzzle, screw-on choke ring, and "ROPER REPEATING RIFLE CO / AMHERST. MASS. / PATENTED APRIL. 10. 1866." marked on top of the dust cover. The drum part of the receiver covers the four revolving spokes which place the patented steel shotgun shells in line with the barrel, and is decorated with a panel scene of a hunting dog lying patiently among weeds on the right side, and a hunter aiming at three ducks on the left. There is light scroll engraving at the front and rear of the action. Smooth deluxe walnut stock, with engraved pewter forearm fittings and an engraved nickel finished shotgun buttplate.

Condition: Partially period refinished, with approximately 95% blue on the barrel, bright blue in the sighting groove and 60% nickel plating on the action, showing a brown patina in the exposed areas. Stock very good as period refurnished, with some mild handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
