Rare Model 1898 Springfield Krag rifle with Parkhurst loading attachment one of only 100 rifles manufactured as an alteration by Springfield Armory in 1901 refer Flayderman 9A – 416. This rifle is serial number 289162 in the correct serial number range and has been authenticated by Mr. Krag himself – Bill Nook. This alteration was designed to facilitate the use of stripper clips for faster loading due to fear of being outgunned which was derived from the Spanish-American war when the Spanish loaded their Mauser’s with stripper clips quicker than American troops could load their rifles. The barrel retains 60% to 80% original blue that is evenly aging and toning. The action shows traces of case hardening and original finish going to a light patina. Scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting on metal surface. The stocks are very good with normal military storage and use. Some dings, mars, scratches and etc. The left side of the stock shows a good cartouche with date of 1900. Markings are good and generally very good overall. One of the rarest type Krag collectibles on a par in rarity to the Springfield Pederson device and rarely encountered. Absolutely authentic and not assembled from parts. Est.: $9,000-$18,000.
