Produced at the Mauser factory in 1934, under the Nazi code system of marking, intended to obscure the extent of German rearmament before the start of open hostilities. The chamber is marked with the letter "K" for the date 1934 and the toggle is marked "S/42" for Mauser with the "S" being the correct gothic style of letter. The barrel extension is stamped with 2nd variation proofs (B90 and S91 "I" beam proofs along with a "droop wing eagle" proof). The test fire and B90 proofs are repeated on the barrel with an addition firing proof on the breechblock. The letter "S" is stamped on the trigger, toggle, side plate, safety bar, takedown latch, trigger guard, and barrel extension. Properly marked extractor and safety position. Matching full or partial numbers on the pistol. Straw colored small parts, checkered walnut grips, and non-matching nickel plated magazine with aluminum base (5807k). Complete with a 1934 dated Auwaerter & Bubeck black leather holster. An extra nickel plated magazine with aluminum base (7389) is included.
BBL: 3 7/8 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm parabellum
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 5855
Condition: Very good. The pistol retains 30% original blue finish with the balance between a smooth brown-gray patina and a mottled gray patina. There is some minor pitting and spotting. The small parts retain 20% of original straw color. There is a gouge on the left grip panel near the bottom, otherwise the grips are fine with a few minor nicks in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically Excellent. The holster is fair with some minor age cracking and some minor handling marks, with "HM" and "RA" hand marked on the back located near the takedown tool pouch there is some missing stitching for something unknown that was sewn in. K-date lugers are highly sought after as they mostly all saw extensive service and the survival rate is very low!
