Rare J.P. Murray Columbus, Georgia marked Confederate rifle in .58 caliber percussion patterned after U.S. model 1854 Mississippi style rifle in good to very good condition. 1 of only a few hundred estimated to have been produced andshowing a 33” barrel with wide brass adapting ring and stud for attaching saber bayonet (Refer Flayderman 10 – 049). There is a number 5 stamped inside the lock and 32/21 on the screws with I I I marked inside the side plate. The metal surfacesshow an even Brown patina with a light grayish silver patina on the lock showing some faint colors. The metal surfaces show some light scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The forend has been professionally stretched from the rearbarrel band forward and this restoration is expertly accomplished. The rear and original portion of the stock is good plus with some dings, mars, scratches and small imperfections. Two solider ID initials N. are carved in the stock(one on each side). The brass shows a matching deep patina and 1 sling swivel is retained on the trigger guard and the front swivel is missing. An old ramrod is included.
