This is a Regency era officer's 1817 pattern helmet for the Horse Guards. The skull and peaks are white metal with a high smooth sided comb with bearskin crest. There is a gilt, square ray helmet plate with a crown at the top with the plumes of the Prince of Wales on either side over the Hanoverian Coat-of-Arms with a scale background and the two battle honors of "WATERLOO" and "PENINSULA" at the top of the curved sides. There are gilt laurel sprays on each side of the skull at the rear. Lion's head ear bosses suspend velvet backed gilt chin scales with lion's head clasp. The peaks are lined with green leather, the sweat band is red leather and there is a silk lining.

Condition: Very good, the skull and peaks have a dark aged patina. The gilt components have a bright appearance overall with some high edge wear. The silk lining is stained and there is minor wear on the peak lining and sweat band. The replacement bearskin crest is excellent.
