Rare Factory Panel Scene Engraved C.S. Pettengill Navy Revolver Serial Number 3
Due to the low serial number and unique panel scene engraving, writer believes it to have been made for exhibition or presentation to a person of influence. Brass cone front and screw groove rear sights, with "PETTENGILL'S / PATENT 1856" on the underside of the frame and "RAYMOND & ROBITALLE/ PATENTED 1858" on the top strap. The loading lever, barrel, cylinder and frame are all numbered "3". Frame is finely engraved, with scrollwork around the screw on the left side, on the trigger guard and down the backstrap, burst patterns behind the rear sight on the butt, and a scene of a man on horseback shooting an attacking Indian Warrior on the left side. Fitted with a pair of smooth varnished grips. With notes from the consignor, written July 27, 1964 that states, "I am sure-without contradiction-that I own more Pettengill guns than anybody in the world". We are pleased to offer this spectacular revolver!
