The upper barrel flats and top strap sides have a scallop and dot border. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line patent dates/address over "NEW MODEL". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom barrel flat and left side of the frame under the grip. The rear cylinder conversion plate is marked "40" and "590". "40" is also marked on the bottom barrel flat at the muzzle. The matching serial number is also marked on the inside of the left grip panel. The revolver was silver plated with a casehardened hammer and niter blue trigger.
