Rare Factory Engraved North & Skinner Percussion Revolving Shotgun
Produced circa 1856-1859 by North and Savage of Middletown, Connecticut. The action is worked by an operating lever mounted in the bottom strap position, which cocks the hammer and rotates and locks the cylinder. The shotgun retains the original tamping rod/loading tool that is mounted below the barrel. Single bead front sight, with the top barrel flat marked "NORTH & SAVAGE MIDDLETOWN CONN", "CAST STEEL" on the upper right flat and "PATENTED JUNE 1 1852" on the upper left flat. The bottom of the barrel is marked "H.S.NORTH". The rear portion of the frame and hammer feature extensive high quality scroll engraving (possibly Gustave Young's shop) on a punch dot background, along with a fish scale pattern on the top of the hammer. Mounted on a smooth straight grip stock with a steel shotgun style buttplate. An estimated total of 480 North & Skinner revolving rifles were produced.
