This is an excellent example of an all complete and unaltered Fabrique Nationale, Model 30 bolt action sniper rifle rig as produced in the late 1970s or early 1980s. These rifles were all based on the tried and true, turn-bolt Mauser action, with these rifles originally designed as a ready made, all complete sniper rifle rig, intended for police/military sales through out the world. This example is one of approximately 50 that were sent to the US for commercial sale in the late 1970s or early 1980s, that were left over after completing a foreign contract. The FN-H company has a long standing history as one of the oldest firearms manufacturing companies that has sold thousands of weapons throughout the world. As noted this rifle is based on the Mauser action as produced at the FN-Herstale factory that was fitted with one of their match quality, medium-heavy target weight barrels, chambered in 7.62 NATO, that has a FN Mag type flash hider fitted to the muzzle area. These actions have a very unique feature in that they are designed to be used with a detachable box magazine, which is actually a copy of the FN-FAL rifle magazine. This action has a one-piece forged bolt with the original Mauser style claw-extractor, and low bolt handle that clears the rifle scope, along with the streamlined cocking assembly. Both the bolt and barrel carry the correct FN-H proofmarks. The receiver has been fitted with a FN-H designed quick detachable scope mount that has been fitted with the original FN-H designed scope that is very similar to the Hensoldt and Steiner sniper scopes also produced during this time frame. The mount is a very unique design that is held on by a single tensioning screw that locks the mount into the bases mounted on the receiver. The stock is also a very unique design and although looks somewhat ungainly, it was really advanced in it's concept and function as you could shorten or lengthen the butt stock length and also raise and lower the cheekpiece, based on the size and stature of the shooter or sniper, totally unheard of in a production sniper rifle in the 1970s. This sniper rifle rig is complete with two original FN-H 10-shot detachable box magazines, one 20-shot box magazine, rubber lens covers for the scope, an Anschutz Diopter style target or match rear sight assembly mounted in a quick detachable mount, designed exactly along the same lines as the one-piece sniper scope mount, a globe front sight with several front sight inserts, a military style heavy leather sling, a heavy-duty bipod, that fits into the rail on the underside of the forend and a small leather pouch containing a scope lens cleaning brush, two-allen wrenches and a lens cloth. This rig also has a copy of the rare, original FN-H produced field manual for the rifle and an original FN-H sales brochure for the sniper system showing all attachments and accessories. The sniper rifle and all contents are fitted into an original green, hard plastic carrying case.
