This is a very fine example of an early production Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Army revolver with the desirable and rare top strap with two pins. The Old Army revolver was introduced in 1861 making this example a Civil War production revolver. Compounding the rarity of the two pin is the dual tone blue and silver finish which accounted for only 10% of all No. 2 Army production. The top of the barrel rib has the one line Springfield address and the cylinder has the one line patent dates marking. Blade and notch sights and fitted with varnished grips. The right grip panel is numbered to the gun.
BBL: 6 inch solid rib
Stock:
Gauge: 32 RF
Finish: blue/silver
Grips: rosewood
Serial Number: 2471
Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 70% original blue finish with the balance a mottled brown-gray patina showing some very scattered mild pitting. The frame retains 97% plus original silver plating which has an attractive aged appearance. A small patch of cleaned spotting is present on the side plate. The grips are fine with a surface chip missing (left panel) and some minor handling marks with most of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent.
