Rare Early 18th-Century Muzzle Loading Deck Cannon Of French Compagnie d'Occident c. 1717. 35 1/2-inch long bronze swivel deck cannon with molded muzzle and 5-banded tube. Raised riband reading: Compagnie/D'Occident; raised coat of arms of the Company and nearer breech the Royal seal of France. 1 5/8-inch diameter trunnions and nipple-type cascabel. Sold together with an extensive file on the history of the trading company and of John Law, the colorful founder of the company. Like the lot prior to this one, these cannons are very unique and are part of the history of the Mississippi river valley and the settlement of early America.
