Rare Documented Texas Shipped Black Powder Colt Sheriff's Model Single Action Revolver with Factory
Estimate: $8500 - 13000
Manufactured in 1893. It is estimated that only about 1,000 "ejectorless" Colt Sheriff's model revolvers were manufactured of a total of 357,000 pre-war Colt Single Action Army revolvers. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address, "45 COLT" on the left side and the left side of the frame is marked with the two-line, three patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap and the assembly number "397" is marked on the loading gate. Blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with two-piece checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt/American eagle relief grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies .45 caliber, 4 inch barrel length, nickel finish, grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 3 to Dunlay & Geisler in Houston, Texas on October 1, 1893. This particular revolver is pictured on the front cover of "The AMERICAN RIFLEMAN" January 1976 issue beside a Colt "Buntline" Special, lot 3228 (also in this sale). Both revolvers are identifed as being a part of the Thomas Burnham Collection.
