Rare Documented Houston Texas Shipped Black Powder Colt Single Action Sheriff's Model Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1890. Its been estimated that only about 1,000 of these "ejectorless" revolvers were manufactured. Of the 1,000 Sheriff's Models produced, only about 305 had 3 1/2 inch barrels, 293 nickel plated and about 683 were chambered in 45 Colt caliber. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address, the left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates and the left upper front of the trigger guard is marked "45 CAL". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap and the assembly number "415" is marked on the loading gate. Blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with two-piece checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, nickel finish, grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 to Dunlay & Geisler, Houston Texas on December 2, 1890.

Fine. The revolver retains 50% original nickel finish with an untouched gray patina on the balance. There is some pitting caused by black powder residue on the frame and cylinder, and a few minor dings on the underside of the barrel. The grips are very fine. The left panel has faded to brown and shows minor wear and the right panel is darker from non exposure to the sun. The markings are crisp. The action is excellent.
