Manufactured in 1954, this revolver was factory engraved, by Master engraver Alvin F. Herbert, and used as a display gun for Colt. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, grip as "Not Listed" and the factory engraving. Special Notation reads "For Display purposes at the NRA National Convention." and it was shipped as 1 on Loan Account, R.B. Almy, Colt Manufacturing Company on March 24, 1955. The Remarks read as follows "The records further indicate subject revolver was returned to the factory and reshipped on loan account to (individuals name and address in Washington D.C). on April 7, 1955. It was again returned and shipped on loan account to Albion Knitting Company Ltd., Peterborough, Ontario, Canada on October 25, 1955. At this time the records describe the engraving as deluxe grade. The revolver was subsequently sold to Albion Knitting Company Ltd. On July 24, 1958." The revolver features a polished blue finish on the flat surfaces and and matte blue finish on the top strap, grip straps and cylinder flutes. Floral scroll and punch dot engraving adorn the barrel, frame and cylinder flats. The right side of the barrel is marked with the one line address and the left side "POLICE POSITIVE SPECIAL/38 SPECIAL CTG.". Both markings are amid the engraving as is the Rampant Colt on the left side of the frame. The hammer has polished sides with a matte blue on the balance. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, serrated trigger and hammer, and fitted with smooth pearl grips with silver Colt medallions. Complete with the original brown hinged lid box numbered to the gun and "Handling the Handgun" pamphlet. The box has a lid end label marked ""ENGRAVED"".

Condition: Near new in the original box. The revolver retains 99% plus original blue finish with a very faint cylinder drag line, some minor handling marks and some finish loss on the front face of the cylinder. The grips are as new. Sharp markings and engraving. The action is excellent and the revolver appears un-fired. The box is very fine with labels fully intact and showing some minor wear.
