Estimate: $1200 - 1800
This is one of an estimated 500 pocket navy percussion revolvers manufactured by C.R. Alsop of Middletown, Connecticut, circa 1862-63. This is the standard model lacking the safety device on the frame. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two line address/patent dates marking, the round cylinder has the two line 1861 patent date marking and the side plate has the 1862 patent date. Brass blade front sight, hump shaped back strap and nicely figured grips. The loading lever and hammer are casehardened and the remainder of the revolver is blue.
BBL: 5 1/2 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 36 percussion
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 402
Condition: Very good. The revolver retains 20% bright original high polish blue finish, covered in surface rust, and some bright original case colors on the loading lever with the balance a mottled gray patina. The grips are fine with a stress crack near the screw and a number of minor handling marks. Action needs work as the cylinder does not rotate when action is cycled. Writer cannot recall having one of these recently; very scarce!
