1896-1987. Ralston’s family moved West by ox team from Missouri in 1859, later coming to Montana in 1864. Seeking gold out West, family settled near Alder Gulch, later settling on a ranch 12 miles west of Choteau in 1877. Later moved to other Montana locations; Ralston cowboyed mostly in eastern Montana. Attended Chicago Art Institute in between a stint with the Army during WWI. Painted New Deal era murals for courthouses, post offices, banks and Billings airport. Famous for his rendition of Custer’s Last Stand. Works displayed at museums in Cody, Wyoming, Billings, Crow Agency, Helena, St. Louis, etc. Several art showings including CMR Art Auction. Awarded the Gold Medal by the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, inducted into Hall of Great Westerners, and Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame.
