This lot offers you two hand tinted etchings by former Los Angeles Rams record setting punter, Dave Chapple. Chapple was raised as a man of the woods in Northern California, and was intrigued by wildlife since boyhood. At the age of ten, Chapple ran into a bout with rheumatic fever, keeping him in solitude, away from the family cabin. Chapple filled his free-time as a boy sketching the animals from the scientific research books he so enjoyed. Chapple wanted to get active, but was on a restricted agenda due to his childhood sickness. It was when he realized punters could participate with minimal fatigue. Dave went onto be a Rose-Bowl punter in college, and was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams - Only to retire at the height of his career to pursue art, full-time. Chapple realized he could maintain his extremely intricate detail in etchings, and started with single-tone prints, later to move onto full color. Chapple attributes his success as an artist to the same characteristics that made him a record setting NFL player - solitude, and practice. Dave has since completed projects for ducks unlimited, and practices in a seemingly endless amount of medium, including charcoal, colored pencil, pen & ink, and later gouache. These prints are fantastic examples of Chapples incredible works, the first is titled "Family Time", and shows a family of quails, the second is titled "Spring Creek Brown", and shows a gorgeous brown trout being released back into the water. Both pieces are signed. The "Family Time" print is an artist proof, while "Spring Creek Brown" is marked 119/350. Overall, the etchings are in very-good condition, with only slight dings to the edges. Each print is professionally mounted, and wrapped in mylar shrink for preservation. The larger print is the brown trout, which measures 19 3/4" x 19".
