RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 2837385. Bbl. 24" marked on right side "S-?-6-52" & "P" proof. Throat & muzzle gauge 1.0. "T105E1" Aperture rear sight. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. M1D Sniper rifle was developed by John Garand at Springfield Armory in the later part of WWII but not produced in quantity until the Korean War Era. The rifle is equipped w/ a correct 50 notch scope bracket. The M84 telescopic sight w/ rubber eye piece has a name plate "Telescope M84 S# 36014". Windage & elevation knobs have hinged square covers & adjustment base is numbered underneath "7667424". Straight post w/ crosshair reticle. All major rifle parts are marked "SA". Stamped trigger guard. Walnut stock set. Buttstock is marked under grip w/ faint encircled "P" proof & arsenal rework "P" proof. Tan leather lace on cheek pad marked "MRT 2/52" Brass attaching screws were not installed. Green nylon Viet Nam era sling. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: cone type flash hider marked "SA HIDER FLASH M2". Cleaning kit & grease cup in butt. CONDITION: rifle appears to have an arsenal rework type restoration leaving the wood w/ a thin finish & slight loss of wood in inletted areas. There are spots of original finish showing on the right side of the stock. The metal has an arsenal rework gray parkerized finish w/ very light wear & scattered handling marks. Telescope mt. is parkerized to match rifle. Scope retains a lg. degree of arsenal rework blue finish. Optics are cloudy but serviceable w/ spotting of the lenses. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands.
