REMINGTON - RIDER MAGAZINE PISTOL.

Cal. 32 Short RF. S# 42. Bbl. 3" octagon with brass blade, outlined top flat and 1/4" round portion at muzzle. Mfg. 1871-1888; approx. 15,000 units. Invented by Joseph Rider with 5 rd. magazine (loaded from front) under barrel. References state made without serial numbers yet barrel on left side next to receiver has "42" reading from top. Smooth flat grips of original appearance that seem to be celluloid yet color is black (they resemble those used on Hi-Standard derringers). Most Rider pistol were plated and adorned with engraving; this is the scarcer plain model. CONDITION: fair to good cleaned grey patina appearance. Very good grips with minimal marks. Missing cap and internals of magazine. Appears to function properly. Midpoint of backstrap has bolt with nut on interior plus slotted area that implies a part is missing on the interior. It might have secured a U shaped bracket for grips retained by two separate screws rather than one through screw. Poor to fair bore with moderate pitting throughout. (01-22155/NW). ANTIQUE. $450-600.
