RARE Tillotson & Columbia Pocket Knife 19th C.
The lot features an exceedingly rare Tillotson & Columbia Peace Sheffield pocketknife from the mid-1800’s. This 19th Century knife is nicely stamped on the blade, “TILLOTSON & COLUMBIA PEACE SHEFFIELD” and along the blade an eagle holding a banner marked “BEST QUALITY”. The piece shows a long slender finely made blade in rare pocketknife form with wonderfully crafted steer horn matched grips having a set of mother of pearl pommels and three mother of pearl rings inlaid on one side. The blade is in good condition with the half grind back having the fingernail cut and snaps into the locking place very well, the press back unlock button (lever lock mechanism) is in good working order as well allowing the knife blade to be released and close. The blade fits entirely into the handle staying closed. Tillotson authentic knives such as this example are very rare with pocketknives being even more scarce and regularly fetch $2,000-$3,000 at auction. The knife measures 9 1/8”L when open with a 4”L blade and is 5.25”L when closed by 1 1/8”W by about ½”D.
