RARE SPRINGFIELD 1903 LINE THROWING BOLT ACTION
RIFLE. Cal. 30 Blank S# 660727. Bbl. 24" unmarked. US Navy line throwing 1903 rifle. No sights present. Mag follower assembly is present. Straight handle bolt is electro pencil matching to receiver. Rear of bbl. has brass plaque marked "U.S.N. NOrd 3914 30 CAL LINE THROWING RIFLE MADE BY VAN KARNER CHEM ARMS CORP NEW YORK USA". Line throwing canister present on forend. Shortened two-bolt walnut stock w/ 1" Hawkins recoil pad. Bottom mounted sling swivels. Right side of stock has "US anchor" marking behind grasping groove. Left side of stock has stamped "A.H.A." marking. Bottom of wrist has one circled & one plain "P" firing proof. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: W.H. Reisner mfg. case w/ Coast Guard markings on the outside of lid. Also included are two spools of modern orange line, a brass cleaning rod, three 15 ounce projectiles, seven 13 ounce projectiles & two illuminated buoyant projectiles. CONDITION: comb of stock has a large 7" crack that is causing the stock to separate. Stock otherwise shows a u-shaped repair at heel, scattered handling wear & dings. Metal retains 50% arsenal blue & parkerized finishes w/ some scattered pitting most notably on rear sight base, scattered oxidation, fading to brown & edge wear. Good bright smoothbore w/ some moderate pitting. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Thomas J. Mulligan. (23-1193/MJC). CURIO. $2500-3500.
