The lot features a fully front beaded tipi possible bag from the Lakota Sioux American Indians. The bag shows an Indian tanned buckskin hide construction that is covered in all 19th Century 12-13 ‘Cen’ petit glass trade seed beads in a fine traditional geometric old style pattern. The bag has a nice full size and is accented by a total of 44 rolled tin jingle cones with drops of purple dyed horsehair. The beadwork had a chalk white background with white heart Cheyenne pink, medium green, light blue, greasy yellow and cobalt. The bag is a wonderful representation of the early old style of Lakota beadwork and is in well preserved good condition. Measures overall 23”L x 13”H x 7”D (when full) with additional length from the ties and fringe. Provenance: From the private family collection of Sarah Alling of Helena, Montana. The family collection of Sarah Alling, a 5th Generation Montanan, began in the 19th Century and has grown since. Along with being an avid collector herself, Sarah co-founded with Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Fine Art of Bozeman, Montana which was both part museum and gallery.
