BOLT ACTION SPANISH-AMERICAN ERA MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-40 Krag. S# 2542. Bbl. 30". This scarce rifle has all its correct early production features. The rifles were adopted in 1892 but production did not commence until 1894. 1892 rear sight. Graduated to 1900 yards. Blade front sight. The barrel has the original flat type muzzle. Receiver is made w/out the notch for the bolt hold open pin & the original extractor is flat on top. Safety is unmarked. Double strap upper band. Solid ramrod. Lower band & sling swivel have notably more blue finish and may be replacements. Walnut stock set. Early type hand guard. Flat smooth buttplate w/out trap. Dished bolt handle seat. Stock is marked on left side over trigger w/ boxed "JSA 1894". Marked under grip w/ circle script "P" proof. Period unmarked dark brown leather sling w/ single hook & 2 piece construction. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brass muzzle cover & sight protector. CONDITION: stock has well worn original finish w/ numerous handling marks, commensurate w/ long service. Notable dent on hand guard & forend below rear sight. Metal has wear & scattered scratches plus handling marks. Metal has turned overall gray w/ spots of very light oxidation. Bore is dark w/ heavily worn lands & notable pitting throughout. Ramrod is likely a replacement. Small crack at rear of ramrod channel on left side.
