Likely to be Rudolf Weinmann born in 1810, died 1878, showing a fisherman in the center foreground, cascading water down rocks creating foam, a castle on the upper right quadrant and a residence with lights in the central left area. This is an evening scene with bright close to if not full moon illuminating the sky with a good light source for the entire painting. The painting is an oil on artist board, there is surface crazing as you would expect, and there is no visible flaking or damage visible. The painting black lights as being untouched and would definitely clean to become a much lighter image. Signed lower left R. Weinmann 1876 in red. Artwork size 15" wide by 12" tall, framed in an old gold leaf frame that is likely to be the original with minor repairs done years ago, 19 1/2" wide by 17" tall. This painting has descended in the Admiral Van Vleck Family of New York.
