This is an authentic original Mississippian culture Quapaw polychrome painted swirl pottery olla dating to 1000-1700 A.D. The piece shows a classic wide globe body with thin long mouth painted in an exceptional swirl design in all mineral polychrome paint of cream/tan, red, and black. The piece shows a very good condition with no visible cracks and a well-preserved original paint. Provenance: From a large American Indian collection in Billings, Montana collection where the piece was confirmed as being an authentic Quapaw ancient piece. Measures overall 11”H x 10.5”W. Other similar examples of ancient swirl painted Quapaw pottery pieces have sold at auction for $10,000 at Tony Putty Artifacts 2012 sale, $7,300 at Tony Putty Artifacts 2014 sale and $6,500 at Old Barn Auctions 2012 sale.
