Presentation grade and inscribed Model 1860 Officer’s sword with ornate cast in high relief figural mounts recently discovered and in “out-of-the-attic” condition. The scabbard is inscribed “Presented to ColonelEdward B. Knox by the Officers and Men of the 1st Infantry, I.N.G. as a slight testimonial of their appreciation of his zeal and untiring labor in the behalf of the Regiment, Sept. 16, 1884”. The pommel cap is anAmerican Eagle in high relief with fancy guard showing Knight on horseback at center; the thumb guard also shows Knight’s head; the scabbard shows a high relief Eagle with shield and wreaths holding the top ring andthe bottom ring is held by a similar pierced mount with high relief Knight in armor. The drag shows fancy stand-of-arms. The inscription and mounts are dirty, rusty and completely uncleaned and untouched. The blade shows Colonel E. B. Knox etched on one side and Thompson & Wetmore, Chicago, Ill dealers name on reverse; blade is very good + and may clean to excellent. The grip shows wrapping with black tape over wire and leather.
