Presentation cast brass dagger in ancient motifs showing silver plate and hand engraved original period presentation reading “ Chef De Batallon, Escat, 1879”. The scabbard is also inscribed in same script by the maker or agent “Lefaucheux A’Paris”. The dagger measures 13” overall with 6 1/8” reinforced dagger type blade in good condition showing normal aging. The casting is very good quality and shows armorial motifs and ancient styling which was popular in the Victorian era. Obviously a military regiment chipped in to buy their favorite chef a weapon to defend himself as a token to their gastronomic appreciation. Est.: $1750-$3500
