The lot features a wonderful Pre-Historic Neolithic period Hopewell stone spearpoint. The piece was recovered in Southern Ohio and shows a large 3-inch-long size. The piece is considered a triangular thick broad medium to large corner notch point and generally has an elliptical cross section, with some flattening over the years. These terrific Hopewell Spear points have served many different purposes from knives to scrappers or ceremonial use, with this being used as a spear point weapon. One of the first discovered Hopewell Spearpoint was founded by Edward G. Scully in 1951 at the Snyders Hopewell site in Calhoun County, Illinois. These are considered to be from the Woodlands Cultural Period of the Roman Warm Glacial Period and from the Hopewellian Culture. These are most commonly found in the Ohio River Valley and into the Great Lakes areas associated with the Hopewell culture and dated to circa 2100 to 1700 B.P.
