This is a very nice example of an early 1936 production luger as manufactured by the Mauser factory. The pistol has the rust blue finish and straw colored small parts. This was the third year of regular Mauser luger production and the first production year to use the full date on top of the chamber area in lieu of the secret letter/date code markings. A standard production model, this series of luger is very difficult into find in original unaltered condition as they saw considerable use during the early pre-war years and many thousand went into Russia in 1942 and never returned. The top of the chamber has the full date of "1936", with the correct "S/42" code marking on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the early double "eagle/63'' Waffenamt proofs, next to the single eagle firing proof, an "eagle/63" proof is marked on the left rear of the barrel and a firing proof on the right rear. The left side of the breechblock, also has the single eagle firing proof. It has the standard "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" markings on the safety and extractor. Visible numbers on pistol match. Nickel magazine with aluminum base numbered to another gun, (6603d), and fitted with standard checkered walnut grips. Complete with a Ryffel & Borns, 1936 dated leather flap holster with a "droop stick wing eagle" over "WaA330" proofmark on the back.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 9124o
Condition: Very fine. The pistol retains 90% faded original blue finish with some high edge wear, thinning on the muzzle and back strap and some minor spotting on the front strap. 30% of the original straw color remains on the small parts with a smooth mottled patina on the balance. The grips are also very fine with some scattered minor wear, a few minor dings and crisp checkering. The markings are highlighted in white and remain crisp. Mechanically excellent. The holster is very good with some minor flexing and flaking and tight stitching.
