Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 70
Manufactured in 1938. Hooded ramp front sight with two tapped scope mounting holes ahead of the elevation adjustable rear sight. The receiver is tapped for scope/sight mounting with the filler screws on top of the receiver having been removed. The rear receiver has two larger, non-factory drilled holes. Standard Winchester markings including the factory proof on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech and "-SUPER GRADE-" on the hinged floor plate. Pre-war safety, heavy weight barrel, cloverleaf receiver tang and polished bolt numbered to the gun. In the book "THE MODEL 70 WINCHESTER 1937-1964", Dean Whitaker refers to these rifles as the "Model 70 375 Type 2." These rifles, like this example, have barrels that resemble the Target barrel in contour and muzzle configuration with a number having been tapped for scope blocks. All barrels will have a ramp front sight. The rifles are very rare and are encounted in the serial number range below 95,000. Mounted on a multi-point checkered walnut pistol grip stock with ebony forend tip, quick release sling swivels, hard rubber factory grip cap and solid Winchester recoil pad.

Condition:
Very fine as partially refinished. The triggerguard retains nearly all of the refinished blue. The balance of rifle retains 97% plus of the blue finish showing thinning on the bolt knob and a patch of cleaned light pitting on the barrel. The refinished stock is very fine and has a few minor handling marks and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
