Pre-War Winchester Model 70 Super Grade Bolt Action Rifle in Rare 7mm Caliber
Manufactured in 1937, this Pre 64 Super Grade Model 70 rifle is chambered in the scarce 7mm caliber. Winchester produced the Model 70 in 7mm from 1937 to 1949 with reportedly less than 1,000 made. The left side of the barrel is marked "WINCHESTER / PROOF STEEL -MODEL 70- WINCHESTER- / -TRADE MARK - 7 M/M" ahead of the rear sight and the Winchester oval proof is marked on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The left side receiver wall is marked "WINCHESTER / -TRADE MARK-" and the floor plate is marked "-SUPER GRADE-". The barrel is equipped with a ramp front sight (hood absent), the rear sight has been removed and a filler block installed, and a Redfield peep sight has been mounted on the receiver. The rifle is mounted with a one-piece checkered pistol grip stock with ebony forend, Winchester grip cap, cheekpiece, checkered steel buttplate and quick release sling swivels.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel and receiver retain 99% original finish with some minor muzzle wear and light handling marks. The trigger guard has a smooth gray patina with strong traces of dark original finish remaining with some cold blue present. The floor plate retains 95% original finish with speckled flaking and a few minor scratches. The stock is excellent with a few minor dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent. A very desirable Pre-war Winchester Model 70 Super Grade in the scarce and desirable 7mm caliber.
