This is an example of a very scarce pre-war Swedish commercial contract Walther Model HP pistol with early proofmarks. This pistol has the early high polish, commercial blue finish. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther Banner, "Waffenfabrik Walther Zella-Mehlis (Thur) / Walther's Patent Cal 9mm", and "MOD HP". A commercial "crown/N" proof is on the right side of the slide and frame with the serial number correctly stamped on the inside of the slide and on the right side of the frame. The serial number on the front of the barrel lug has been removed and there is a "crown/N" proof on the right side. The locking block is marked "160". The right rear of the slide is marked "K.S. No 15". It also has the correct external extractor. The pistol has the 'fat' safety lever, thin rear sight and checkered take-down lever with square firing pin. The checkered black Bakelite grips are distinctly a Swedish pattern, and each one is marked on the inside with four mold or proof marks as follows: small circle with "CEWE" "480" maker's mark of a small "V7/MD/Z23" all in one proof over "1". There is a lanyard ring on the left heel and the magazine is absent.
BBL: 5 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm
Finish: blue
Grips: bakelite
Serial Number: H1968
Condition: Partially refinished, the barrel, which retains most of the blue finish. The remainder of the pistol retains 95% original blue finish with wear on the front edges of the slide, thinning on the front strap and scattered minor flaking. The slide shows some minor dings and scratches. The grips are excellent with a few minor dings in the otherwise crisp checkering. The markings are highlighted in white and remain clear and crisp. Mechanically very good.
