This is a representative example of a late 1937 production Luger as manufactured by the Mauser factory with the all rust blued finish and checkered walnut grips. Although a standard production Luger model, this series of luger is still hard to find in good original condition as they saw considerable use during the early pre-war years and into Russia in 1942 from which almost none returned. The top of the chamber has the full date of 1937, with the correct 'S/42' code marking on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the early double "eagle/63'' Waffenamt proofs, next to the single eagle firing proof, both of which are also stamped on the top rear portion of the barrel. The right side of the breechblock also has the single eagle firing proof. It has the standard "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" markings on the safety and extractor. It is fitted with standard checkered walnut grips, with a nice matching brown color on both sides and is complete with one early production, all blued, unmarked magazine with the aluminum base that is marked on the bottom of the base, "1496/o/+" with a single "eagle/63" acceptance proof.
