Offered in this lot is a Pre-Columbian Jade bead Necklace. Jade was considered a rare and valued commodity among pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures, such as the Olmec, the Maya, and other various groups in the Valley of Mexico. Indigenous cultures could obtain jade in the Motagua River Valley in Guatemala, and later found it could be mined near what is today Chilpancingo Guerrero Mexico. The hard jade has stood the test of time, displaying good condition with little cracking, and minor chips. When stretched out, the necklace measures approximately 12" long. the largest stone measures 1 1/2" wide.
