This is a WWI Luger that was a late post WWI reworked for the Weimar Police. This specific Luger is only marked with the original year of manufacture on top of the chamber area and was not stamped with the typical 1920 date. The right side of the barrel has the large "eagle/PTV" for Technical Police Unit, along with a small Eagle/33 proof mark on top of the barrel, both typical proof marks of Lugers reworked by the Simson factory in the late 1920s before the Nazis took over. The top of the chamber is dated "1917" and the front toggle has the "Crown/Erfurt" mark of the Erfurt factory. The right side of the barrel extension has the three "crown over gothic letter" proofs along with a Imperial eagle proof. During the rework process the typical police sear bar was added on top of the side plate. In addition to those marks some of the original parts still retain their original "Crown over RC proof" indicating that some of the parts did not meet the military tolerances but were still acceptable for use in production. The safety area and extractor are correctly marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN". The grips are checkered walnut, and it is complete with a unmarked nickel plated magazine with an unnumbered aluminum base.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw colors
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 258f
Condition: Arsenal refurbished with 75% blue finish remaining, and showing even honest wear overall. The markings are clear and sharp. The various small parts retain strong traces of their straw colors mostly in the protected areas. The grips are in good condition overall with nice checkering on both sides with even wear across the tops, with minor light nicks. Mechanically excellent. The Luger has matching numbers except the magazine as noted above.
