Possibly unique percussion revolving percussion rifle with brass frame, 6 shot cylinder and approximately .38 caliber showing fine quality workmanship and attributed to James Warner of Springfield, Massachusetts remaining in fine to near excellent original condition. The rifle measures 48” overall with 28” octagon to round barrel. The barrel shows 90% to 95% bright original tobacco color browned finish with just some slight losses at the edges and very crisp metal. The frame shows a light patina and is extremely sharp. The cylinder is finished in the bright as is the hammer and both are near excellent with no evidence of use. The stock is of select quality and shows 95% varnish with just a few minor scratches and storage marks. The cylinder is hand revolved and is locked by stops located at the front of each cylinder. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers. The condition is fine to near excellent overall and shows no evidence of use or firing. There is a period ramrod retained which is missing a screw off end piece which would marry to a catch located at the muzzle. A very interesting prototype that shows hand workmanship throughout and that old time collectors attributed to Warner however there are many New England gunsmiths that could’ve manufactured this rifle and we find it totally unique and possibly one-of-a-kind. Provenance Richard K. Bourne Auction Company last sold early 1980s. Est.: $6,000-$12,000.
