Possibly unique butcher's axe with forged steel blade and carved wooden grip. The blade shows etched decorations on left of Indian head, florals and wording (Chicago Stock yard) and stamped numeral designations10, over 28 over 48. The reverse shows the full portrait of a running buffalo with legend buffalo splitter. The wooden grip is carved at the end in the form of a buffalo foot and hoof. Just the type of item thatwould have been marketed at Wild West shows and to tourists traveling the west. The only such example known to a fifty year blade collector who obtained it from a bowie knife collector. Est.;$3,000-$6,000.
