Featured in this lot is the Frederic Remington book, "Pony Tracks", Harold McCracken Edition, 1951. Harold McCracken (1894–1983) was an American author, Alaskan grizzly bear hunter, biplane stunt photographer, cinematogapher, producer and museum director. He was a noted explorer, who led expeditions in the 1920s tracing the possibility of a long-ago land bridge between Siberia and Alaska. Remington was an American artist and writer who focused on the American West, featuring Indians, cattlemen, and the U.S. Cavalry. "Pony Tracks" is a collection of fifteen sketches of army and sporting life, mainly in the western United States and northern Mexico written and illustrated by Frederic Remington during his time with the US Cavalry. His sketches include a Sioux outbreak in South Dakota, a rodeo at Los Ojos, policing the Yellowstone, the colonel of the First Cycle Infantry, Christmas in a Sibley tepee, bear-chasing in the Rocky Mountains, and more! Illustrated by Frederic Remington with a frontispiece and 69 full-page black & white plates.
This peach-colored cloth bound book is in good condition, the front cover has multi-colored decorative horse and rider motif, very slight scuffing on cover & spine edges, very minimal foxing noted, pages intact, paper dust jacket has tears and foxing. 6.25"W x 9.25"L x 1"D
