This is an authentic original tightly woven basket from the Pomo California Coast Native American Indians and dating to the 19th Century. The basket shows a wonderful dual parallel line zig-zag pattern at the body and edge in dark brown / black and eight triangular dark brown / black symbols at the base. The piece is considered to be a seed gathering basket and shows a nice well-preserved condition for its early age with some slight loss to the weave at the top edge. The Pomo American Indian culture is famed for its tradition of intricate basketry. Provenance: From a 90-year collection out of Central Arizona in the Coconino National Forest. The piece was bought by Grandpa Lepker who purchased the pieces when he got off the train in Phoenix when coming home from World War I (WWI) in circa 1918-1919 (he bought it for his wife). Overall the piece measures 6.25” in diameter by 3”H with a 5.5” inside dimension opening diameter. The basket is 19.75 inches in circumference.
