Pocket Navy style percussion revolver, .31 cal., 6-shot, 6” barrel, engraved in the style of the 1850’s, gold washed, later replacement burl wood grips, #26482. In this cataloger’s opinion, the gun has beenreworked with re-stamped numbers on the frame, cylinder and loading lever (brass trigger guard and backstrap are un-numbered); the engraving is well-done but likely not period and the rebated cylinder may have been modified from a ’49 Pocket style cylinder (as true Pocket Navies were of .36 caliber); the action is good, the replacement grips are very good and the cylinder scene has been re-rolled. Our consignor purchased this gunover 20 years ago with paperwork and letter claiming it to have been previously in the William Locke collection and purporting it to possibly being a prototype; we believe it to have been extensively reworked and istherefore sold as such; still a flashy piece. Est.: $1,000-$1,500.
