Manufactured in the mid-1860s, with Merwin & Bray serving as financiers and agents, the Plant Front Loading Revolver was designed to circumvent the Rollin White patent on bored-through cylinders (1859 and 1863 patent markings stamped on cylinder). German silver blade front and groove rear sights, with "MERWIN & BRAY NEW-YORK" on top of the barrel rib and the one line patent marking around the cylinder. Silver plated brass frame with blue remaining parts and smooth varnished two-piece walnut grips.
BBL: 5 1/4 inch solid rib
Stock:
Gauge: 42
Finish: blue/silver
Grips: rosewood
Serial Number: 7471
Condition: Very fine, with 70% of the bright original high polish blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, mild edge wear and scattered handling marks. Some light scratches are visible on the cylinder, which has had the chambers opened up at the rear. The frame is excellent, with 98% of the original silver, which has taken on a dark, attractive aged patina, showing only a few hints of the brass beneath. The grips are fine, with a few light scratches and patches of varnish loss. Mechanically excellent.
